May 21, 1927.
My dear Mr. Kennedy,
I am quite at a loss to understand the tone of the English letters. The arrangements were perfectly understood at the Meeting in Dame Henrietta's house. I sent her all of the printed matter in which it was so restated, in fact she sent ↑for↓ several dozen copies which she wished to use in England. It now appears to come to us as a favor and they would ↑evidently↓ much prefer having the fellowship used for an Englishman, although, of course, the must have had they use of the money since last July.
Do you think we had better go ahead and appoint someone for the year? I do wish we could find someone in Boston or thereabouts and send him on for one year. I will not reply to the letter until I hear from you.
I will be going up to Maine this summer. Perhaps I could see you, but it will not do to wait until then.
Hastily yours,
Jane Addams [signed]
