Dear Miss [Addams],

I have just been greatly delighted in reading some newspaper account and program of the "family" dinner given you in Chicago on Jany 20 sent to me by my son Seymour H Olmsted of Winnetka who was fortunate enough to be one of the guests. I wish I could have sat beside him.

The only matter of disappointment to ↑me↓ in the accounts which I read was in not noting the presence at the dinner of Miss [Hermine] Schwed -- "Reformed Socialist," and Field Secy of some Society or other with "Constitution" in its title writ so large that it covers everything but the 18th Amendment thereof. Miss Schwed's addresses are a joy to hear. I never miss one if I can help it. The [gaiety?] of Nations is much advanced therefore and it would have been a treat to have heard her on the occasion in question! I have so often heard your name read out from her Index Expurgations that it would be interesting to note her reactions on coming to find that there were still one or two left who had faith in you.

Among the 1400 & more let me count myself

Yours very truly

John B Olmsted.
