My dear Miss Addams:

There hasn't been any chance to write to you about the dinner the other night and I was so tied up with different guests that I could not linger until the crowd about you had scattered. I need not say how happy I was and how much I hope that you were happy. Certainly it was spontaneous and a source of inexpressible satisfaction to many people.

I spoke to you about making a small contribution and I [enclose] a check which you can use in any way you wish.

I wish I had known about your efforts in connection with the Prohibition investigation and, of course, I wish I could do a great deal more.

Devotedly yours,

S. P. B. [initialed]
