Dear Miss Sears:

I am in receipt of ↑Mr. Chandler's↓ letter of December 29th, asking me to accept appointment as a member of a Committee of One Hundred Persons to give a dinner in honor of Jane Addams, on Jan. 20, 1927. I hesitate to accept this honor by reason of the fact that I do not expect to be in Chicago on the designated date, and so I cannot have any part in the dinner itself nor carry any responsibility in connection with it. If under these circumstances you deem it wise to use my name as one of the hundred people, I am ready to have you do so.
