JANE ADDAMS LAUGHS AT MRS ASQUITH'S REMARK

CHICAGO, Feb 1 -- Mrs Aquith may not know Jane Addams, Chicago's foremost settlement worker, but Jane Addams knows Margot Asquith's husband. She merely smiled today when told that the wife of England's former Prime Minister, between cigarettes, on her arrival in New York, asked in a bored tone, "Jane Addams -- who is she?"

"I know Mrs Aqsuith's husband, Herbert H. Asquith, well," said Miss Addams at Hull House, her home. "We met at Toynbee, East London, England's first settlement house. I did not have the pleasure of meeting Mrs Asquith, but, of course, I know of her."

"But don't you think it strange that she should not know you, or, at least have heard of you?" Miss Addams was asked.

"No, I do not think it a bit strange," said Miss Addams, "[Goodbye]."
