Mrs. Eva Perry Moore,
President, National Council of Women,
3125 Lafayette Ave.,
St. Louis, Mo.

My dear Mrs. Moore:

I wish to answer in a personal way your letter to me, the warm expression of which I greatly appreciate.

You can scarcely realize with what sincere regret we are causing you further anxiety. But members of our National Board feel that a great principle is involved and that we cannot passively assent to such injustice as is being perpetrated upon the National Council as well as upon ourselves.

Had the organizations to which you allude played fairly and tried to force our resignation at the annual Meeting in October when the matter could have been discussed openly and when we could have had an opportunity to hear the charges and to reply, and we had then been asked to resign, the situation would be different. But to allow this opportunity to pass by and then instantly to try to force the hands of the Executive Board seems to us an intolerable situation and one in which we can not acquiesce.

As you mention Miss Addams, I wish to state that Miss Addams was not in attendance at our Board Meeting and there was not time to consult her. She always meets with us when she can and we like to have ↑value most highly↓ her advice but I want you to know that this time she was not present.

Again expressing to you my sincere regret to cause such anxiety to members of the Board of the National Council, some of whom I know personally, with very warm regard and admiration, I am

Very sincerely yours,

National Chairman
