My dear Mr. Thomas:-

Mr. Ricker has just sent me a copy of a letter written to you April 7th in which the following statement occurs:

“The committee here in Chicago has already voted to amalgamate and we are ready to proceed as soon as Liggett returns.”

Mr. Ricker has misunderstood the situation. We voted as I wrote you before to be guided by your judgment in the matter ↑of national amalgamation↓ and while I clearly see the disadvantages of throwing away all that work, we have done nothing further, in the matter. I am writing you a once to save any possibility of a misunderstanding, ↑[although] I quite easily understand how Mr. Ricker was misled.↓

Waiting to hear from you,
I am
Faithfully yours,
Jane Addams [signed]
