Biographical Text

Mabel Jordan was a suffragist and peace activist associated with the Women's International League for Peace and Freedom. She was a Swarthmore graduate and taught languages at Radnor High School in Wayne, PA. Vernon left the NAWSA in 1913, joining Alice Paul and the more radical suffragists and became well known for heckling President Wilson and participating in large demonstrations. Vernon was one of seven women who served time in jail rather than pay fines for picketing the White House. After suffrage was won, Vernon worked with the National Women's Party on the Equal Rights Amendment.
