Biographical Text

Henry Cabot Lodge was a Republican U.S. Senator. He led the opposition movement of the United State's involvement in the League of Nations. Lodge was one of the first to be granted a doctorate in history from Harvard University, where he worked as a history professor for the following three years. He edited scholarly journals and wrote about major historic events in America. He was involved in the state legislature from 1880 to 1881, a member of the U.S. House of Representatives from 1887 to 1893, and was then elected to the U.S. Senate. Lodge was the chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee in 1919, allowing him the ability to keep the United States from joining the League of Nations.

Lodge married Anna Cabot Mills Davis in 1871. They had three children together. Lodge died in 1924.
