My dear Miss Addams:

You will be pleased to know that I have succeeded in raising the price of the ring to $85.00 and that the band is to be returned to the owner.

Mrs. Karsten and I have just come back from a jewelers whose name was given me by someone who thought he would, perhaps, give us a better value than the man whom Mrs. Bowen had recommended. We found him exceedingly sympathetic with the romantic side of the transaction. When you come back, I will give you the band in order that it may be restored to our generous friend. I am sending by this mail a check for $85.00 to Lucien Price to be forwarded to “The Radical.”

I am sending this information by special delivery because I thought you might want to convey it to the members of the Board -- we have so few romances in the course of our work.

Affectionately yours,

Miss Jane Addams,
c/o Hotel Touraine,
Boston, Massachusetts.
