Biographical Text

Samuel Vernon Stewart received his legal education at Kansas State Normal College and at the University of Kansas. He worked as an attorney in Montana until 1910, at which point he became the state chairman of the Democratic State Central Committee. He later ran for the position of governor, which he secured and held for two terms. Later on in his life, he became a member of the Montana House of Representatives as well as a State Supreme Court Justice.

Stewart married Stella Baker in 1905. They had three children together. Baker died in 1939.
