Biographical Text

Adeline Lobdell Atwater was a writer, suffragist and an art collector and curator. She authored The Marriage of Don Quixote in 1931, along with short stories and articles. Atwater moved from Chicago to Washington, DC during World War I where she served as an Illinois representative of the National Woman's Party. After her divorce, Atwater moved to New York and directed the New Gallery, which specialized in modern art.

Atwater married Henry Atwater in 1910. The couple had two children and divorced in 1921. She remarried to Harold Cooper Pynchon in 1932. Atwater died in 1975.
