Biographical Text

Robert Herrick, born in 1868 in Massachusetts, published his first work while attending Harvard in the Harvard Advocate and the Harvard Monthly. Herrick became a professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology after graduating from Harvard, and later at the University of Chicago. He normally spent part of his year at the University, and the other part writing and traveling. He published short stories, novels, newspaper columns, and several textbooks and historical books, sometimes under the pseudonym Austin Smith. In 1935 he was briefly appointed Government Secretary for the Virgin Islands, and later died there in 1938.
