My dear Alice

As nearly as I can make it out it will [later] Mr Linns third to pay up estate debts. I have paid since the estate was [illegible]

Englewood taxes -- 18.34
Grant locomotion works -- 17.05
Lake Forest sewer & taxes -- 309.94
345.33

I have not paid the Grant or Englewood taxes this Spring [although] Lake Forest is paid.

Your bill for balance of the [illegible] is $223.22 isn't it?

345.33
223.22
568.55

[Comes] pretty nearly to a third of the $2500.00 total. [page 2]

I don't think that you are quite fair to John.  I hold his note for the [amount] I advanced him when he went to New York, with the promise to pay for the first share of the estate. I have advanced nothing since that [illegible]. I bought out Weber's share in Lake Forest & Englewood for $1000.00 of my pasture land sale. I am anxious to have him go abroad, he sails March [26]th for a six months trip.

After the estate & John repay me from this sale, I shall be quite comfortable. I am glad for this money as I am not quite up to the [page 3] usual amount of lecturing this winter.

I have send back the signed deed and ought soon to hear from Mr Faville.

Always your loving sister --

Jane Addams
