This Is Statement of Miss Jane Addams Before Sunday School Class at Episcopal Cathedral.
"Child labor is a social waste and should be prohibited," said Miss Jane Addams yesterday, speaking to the adults' Sunday school class of the Episcopal cathedral of SS. Peter and Paul, Washington boulevard and Peoria street.
"Every civilized country should have a law prohibiting the employment of children in gainful occupations up to the age of 18," she said. "When we come to understand that child labor borrows on future good citizenship proper legislation along these lines will be enacted.
"Labor dwarfs the bodies and stultifies the minds of the children, making them unfit later to exercise the duties of good citizenship."
