Jane Addams Comments on Women's Privilege, March 28, 1924 (summary)

JANE ADDAMS, addressing the Women's International League in the city, did well to urge women not to forgo the supreme feminine privilege -- that of being a woman. She averred that to imitate men is only a little worse than to be suppressed by men. The respect this American woman has won, even from those whose views are divergent, was acquired without the sacrifice of any of those attributes of sympathy and charm which the tact and vision of womankind are destined increasingly to apply in civic affairs and in the large sphere of international adjustments.
