Biographical Text

Helen Wadsworth Yates was the wife of Illinois Governor Richard Yates, Jr.. She was a graduate of the Illinois Women's College, and active social hostess. After her husband's death in 1936, Yates pursued work in wood carving, needlepoint, and painting.

The Yates' were married in 1888. They had two daughters: Catherine Yates Pickering and Dorothy Yates Henderson.
