Biographical Text

Vera Baranoff was born in Russia. She immigrated to the United States in 1904. She attended the Teachers College at Columbia University and then became a teacher for a night class. Baranoff wrote to Jane Addams to praise her book, The Spirit of Youth and the City Streets. In her letter she explained that she was not entirely content with her life, finding that housework and teaching were not enough for her.

Baranoff married Leo Baranoff in 1896. They had two children: Jack and Helen. Baranoff died in 1959.
