New York, April 26th, 1915.

Mrs. Joseph T. Bowen, Treas.,
Hull House, Chicago, Ill.

My dear Mrs. Bowen: --

I am very glad to get your letter of April 22nd which has been forwarded to me in New York, because my sister, Mrs. Wiles, is here at the present time and only yesterday we were talking of the absence of Miss Addams and our regret that we should have to postpone matters until her return. Now that we know that this is not necessary, there is no reason why we cannot complete at once the necessary arrangements to give you the funds to build a recreation hall for the Waukegan Summer School. Both Mrs. Wiles and I favor this rather than the other suggestions of Miss Addams.

I have not had an opportunity to talk this over with my other sister, Mrs. Freeman, although I have sent her copies of correspondence. May I ask upon receipt of this letter that you call up Mrs. Wm. S. Freeman in [Wilmette], and ask her whether or not she would like to join us in the erection of such a recreation hall. If she does, there will be a total available of about $6,000.00, but if she does not, there will be only a little over $4,000.00 available for this purpose. As soon as I return to Chicago, which will be in about two weeks, I will arrange to turn over the money to you, but in the mean while you can proceed with having the architect draw up the necessary plans and specifications for such a building which is being erected in the memory of Mrs. Mary E. D. Goodfellow.

During the next two weeks please address me care of The Engineers' Club, New York, after which time, my regular address in Chicago.

Very truly yours,

Van Rensselaer Lansingh [signed]
