Ladies and Gentlemen:
I have your request for a Christmas donation. I would be glad to contribute to Hull House, were it not for one thing, for I spent most of the evenings of four very interesting years there in doing my small bit, and so am well aware of its scope and worthiness as an institution.
But I will not contribute to, or have anything to do with Hull House as long as the myth still prevails that Mrs. Pelham "founded" the Hull House Players.
I am no seeker of fame, even if, and when I may have accomplished something worth while recording, but neither can I tolerate having what I have done blotted out by an untruth, especially when it is persisted in year after year in the face of known facts to the contrary.
Moreover, it strikes me that the continual coddling of this myth, both in press and pamphlet, is wholly inconsistent with the principles of Hull House, as I once understood them.
