Dear Miss Addams:

A conference meeting in New York on August 29, called by the Citizens National Committee for Sacco and Vanzetti, appointed a committee of seven to explore possibilities and to formulate plans for further activity. The committee consisting of John Haynes Holmes, Robert L. Hale, Norman Hapgood, William Schuyler Jackson, John Lovejoy Elliott, Jessica Henderson and Robert Morss Lovett, makes the following statement of possible objectives and plans, which have been discussed with the Defense Committee of Boston, and will be undertaken in cooperation with them:

1. To establish the innocence of Sacco and Vanzetti.

A. Investigation of all clues leading to the discovery of the guilty.

B. Investigation of the Federal Department of Justice, with special reference to its activities in the Sacco-Vanzetti case.

C. Publication of the complete record of the Sacco-Vanzetti case.

D. Publication of an examination of the Lowell report, and of the stenographic account of proceedings before the advisory committee.

E. Publication of the letters and utterances of Sacco and Vanzetti with an introduction.

2. To further judicial reform in the several states in order to [ensure] justice for the individual.

3. To raise funds for Mrs. Sacco and her children.

The committee cannot proceed further without definite assurances of support. Accordingly this letter is addressed to those who have already manifested their interest and sympathy, with the following questions:

1. Do you favor the establishment of a National Sacco-Vanzetti League for Justice?

2. Will you allow your name to be used as a member of its advisory board?
