NATIONAL FEDERATION OF SETTLEMENTS
Sept. 4, 1924.
Dear Miss Addams:
I hasten to answer your letter of the third. I wrote to Mrs. Barnett, Mr. Mallon and Capt. Ellis and Miss Coolidge about the fellowship, I have had two letters from Mr. Mallon which, however, do not seem to be very definite on the points which I raised. I enclose copy of my letter to Mr. Mallon and Miss Coolidge and the replies received from Mr. Mallon.
My feeling is that we should have some fairly definite information about how the fellowship is to be organized and administered if it should ↑is to↓ be a joint affair between the two nations. One is always expected to have definite data about money details in making a request for subscriptions, and I can't see that the scheme for the fellowship is amended or that Mr. Mallon's letter gives us very much to go upon. I may be wrong in this, in which case I hope you will correct me.
I have just had a note from Miss Coolidge in which she writes that she is meeting in London this week with Capt. Ellis and will try to see Mr. Mallon and Mrs. Barnett about the fellowship. I think it might be well if we could authorize Miss Coolidge to consult personally with whoever is in charge of the fellowship about the possibility of a joint committee. It seems to me that it would strengthen the appeal if an American committee with representatives of the universities and members of settlement boards could be organized to take charge of raising the necessary sum.
I should be very grateful if you would write something that we can embody in the appeal to be sent out.
Faithfully yours,
Albert Kennedy [signed]
