KEIJO, June 12 1923
Dear Miss Addams,
Mrs. Beard asked me in Tientsin if I would see that you had the opportunity in Japan to meet and some of the leading Japanese, both men & women. She said she feared that if you were taken in charge by some of the American ladies (who are lying [page 2] in wait for you) that your life in Tokyo may be only one busy whirl of semi-social events and inspections of missionary work. There are other important things to see and important people (Japanese) to meet, -- and the meeting would be well both for you and them.
I am, therefore, writing this note to say that if you will send me a [page 3] telegram (or telephone-message after you get to Tokyo) I shall arrange call on you and arrange with you to see that you might see what the Japanese themselves are doing and talk with a few men & women who are real leaders.
I have asked Mr. Oda, a Japanese connected with the governor-General here in Seoul, to show you some things here [page 4] -- and I have also told him not to try to show you too much, as you will want time to see Americans alone.
I am leaving for Tokyo today. My address is c/o The Foreign Office there.
With regards to Miss Smith, I remain
Yours sincerely
F. Moore [signed]
