My dear Miss Addams: --
I doubt very much if a different title would have materially increased the sale of "The Long Road of Woman's Memory." I have asked our Sales Department how they felt about it, and they tell me that from a selling standpoint "The Long Road of Woman's Memory" is really preferable to the title "The Devil Baby at Hull-House." They distinctly advise against changing the title now as that, even if the new title were better, would only result in confusion both in the book trade and in schools and libraries. Even though we should make it perfectly evident on the title page that it is the same book, a certain amount of confusion and error are unavoidable in the case of altered titles.
I am hoping that the book will continue to have a small sale, and ultimately work up to a really respectable total.
In the meantime, is there anything under way that we are to have the privilege of publishing for you within the near future? I hope that there may be something coming.
Yours very truly,
