My dear Miss Addams: --
I return Mrs. Kawabe’s letter. We are very glad to waive in your behalf such rights in a Japanese translation of your book, THE SPIRIT OF YOUTH AND THE CITY STREETS, as may be given to us under the terms of the contract for the publication of that book. Our only stipulation would be that the translation is not to be published outside of Japan, or circulated elsewhere. With this waiver before you, you are free to make such arrangements for the translation of the book as seem to you fitting.
I am thrilled to hear that you have prepared an outline for a new chapter for TWENTY YEARS AT HULL-HOUSE, and I shall eagerly await the receipt of this outline. I am most eager to keep this book actively before the public. I believe that it has a real message, fills a real need, and I can think of no way in which to promote its usefulness more successfully than by occasionally bringing out enlarged editions.
