Dear [Miss] Addams,
I am particularly glad to hear that you are interested in the "Diary" -- it is at any rate a [bit of] real thought on a great question without pretending [to be] a final answer.
Now here is a trifle [by] him which I had quite forgotten but coming [across] it had [some] reprints for my Chelsea institutions -- It is gay [and] [page 2] & comes from a cheerful & peaceful past -- may take your mind off the present for half an hour.
What a good thing that your W.I.L. should be at Washington these past months. This last week has been a bit disappointing but still one feels a fresher atmosphere in International relations & looks with great hope [page 3] [to?] developments. I feel [now something] will come [in only] in U.S.A. will take up its great peace making task.
Here we are still uncertain about the Irish decision but I hope by next week we shall be left wondering how we would doubt a good [issue].
It is a great thing gained that our Houses of Parliament should [show] such an [overwhelming] [page 4] majority for the settlement. I should indeed have loved a good talk with you but did not venture to take up your time to come all this way. I am still very unwell, indeed have been in bed more or [less] for some weeks -- but hope to mend soon.
All good wishes personally & for your good work.
[ys aft?]
Kate Courtney
