NATIONAL FEDERATION OF SETTLEMENTS

Office of the Secretary
20 Union Park, Boston, Mass.

March 9, 1922.

Miss Jane Addams,
800 South Halsted St.,
Chicago, Ill.

Dear Miss Addams:

I had a telegram very similar to the one which you enclosed from Mr. Zelenko. There is no question but that we should do something about this appeal. I am waiting until after his letter comes in order to better know what can be done.

We shall, I think, have to have some assurance about what the money is to be raised for. Apparently it is not for food but to keep an educational scheme in operation. This in itself should stimulate the settlements to giving, provided we can secure a connected enough story to make it worth while to appeal.

As soon as I hear from Mr. Zelenko, I will consult with you and others and see what can be done. $100. more than the $500. voted for the International Conference was pledged. I should think we might use that money right away for Russia. There are, I am quite sure, a number of settlements where the clubs would be practically interested in a Moscow educational enterprise.

Very sincerely yours,

Albert Kennedy [signed]
