My dear Miss Addams:
I have received a letter from Mr. Byron in which he is somewhat worried because Mrs. Barnett has not heard from me. I have not written Mrs. Barnett as I did not think it would be wise to do so until my own plans for next year are certain. In my last letter to you I told you that I was holding off making any decisions, but that I regarded Mrs. Barnett favorably.
You know that I have had a most distressing year. It is just possible that I will be unable to handle any new attractions with any degree of success, and until I am sure of my own ground, I do not wish to tie up anyone with a contract that I could not satisfactorily perform.
If Mrs. Barnett is worried, I want you to understand quite fully that she is not obligated to me in any way.
If there is no need for hurry, I would like to have the matter left open for a week or two, until I can give a definite answer.
