My dear Miss Addams,
Your last letter, sent to New York has been gratefully received, as well as the others, & being of different dates with the same signature, facilitated the cashing of your draft, of ↑ones↓ which some difficulties were made because it was drawn to your name. However, I shall have the money now safely in American Express checks in my inner pocket. My boat sails tomorrow, & though Emily could not meet me as she intended, I believe I have every facility possible arranged for an easy transit to Geneva, & am told that I may find yours & Emily's letters useful in visas on the way. As your past letter was kept by the Dept of State in [page 2] Washington, that was only I asked for another. I am so looking forward to being with Emily, & I hope my companionship & her desire to make me comfortable may have their influence upon her own comfort & health. I am going nominally to assist Emily, but I think you understand that if it seems best I may switch to Red Cross childrens work -- & that I believe being with Emily will be of itself an assitance to her -- If I should be so unfortunate as to be ill, I should expect to go south & not burden her work or her.
