AMERICAN RED CROSS
Paris May 6. 1919
Dear Miss Addams
Mrs. Lewis tells us you will be willing to go to other countries with some of our group. It is such a wonderful addition to our work if you will help us that I am making bold to ask if you will not undertake some general survey work of finding out the needs in different countries where we can best help and in which way. It is a venture of faith on our part over here to open new doors of service as I have no idea what resources or backing the home committee can give us but I feel the need is urgent, and if we can get a real program of work, which I know is possible with your help, then the support is sure to come.
May I express my personal pleasure in your cooperation and the great encouragement it will be to all our workers to know that you are with us. [page 2]
Will you kindly let me know when I can talk over plans with you. I would come to Switzerland to [save] you the journey back, but I could not get a visa for that and I also think permits could best be secured here.
Would you consider first going with Mrs. Lewis & Miss Wood with perhaps some English Friends for a survey or would you prefer making plans for a wider survey at once.
Very sincerely
Charles J Rhoads
