NATIONAL HEADQUARTERS
February 2, 1918.
My dear Miss Addams:
I need hardly tell you that I am disappointed at your refusal to join in a call for a national conference.
What I wish to inquire about today is this: do you happen to have any of the printed material of the "Bund Neues Vaterland" of Berlin that was published early in the war? You will perhaps remember that that was the group in which Dr. Rotten and Rev. Sigmund-[Schultze] were so interested. When I addressed the group in 1915, I was given a full file of their correspondence-letters and printed material. Unfortunately, all this is locked up in Chicago in a storage house, where our household has been ever since the fall of 1915. It occurred to me that possibly you, too, were given their various documents when you sojourned in Germany on your swing around the European capitals. If so, could I borrow the material for a day or two? I am working up an article on the German situation, and am exceedingly anxious to have access to that material.
My sincere thanks to you in advance.
Always faithfully yours,
Louis P. Lochner. [signed]
