Miss Jane Addams,
Hull House,
800 Halsted Street,
Chicago.

My dear Miss Addams:

I have your letter of the 24th. Permit me to extend my sympathy to you in the matter of the illness and death of your sister. I was acquainted with this through the papers and through a mutual friend, and I feel sure that thousands of people who know you or know of you, silently extend their sympathy to you.

I don't feel that I ought to ask you who are so busy to come to see me. I ought to call on you, but unfortunately, I am leaving town Saturday evening to be gone some time, and it will be impossible for me to get over to Hull House before then. If it would be convenient for you to call on me Saturday morning, I shall make my time fit in with yours. Please call me up on the telephone, and if Saturday is inconvenient, I will try to arrange it for Friday.

Sincerely yours,

Van Rensselaer Lansingh [signed]
