Biographical Text

Frederic Harrison was a British historian who was trained at Kings College and Wadham College, Oxford. He was a popular speaker on ethics, politics, and history and served as an examiner at the Inns of Court and for the University of London. Harrison was a supporter of the positivist school of philosophical thought, and as a devotee to the cause of labor he worked for the Workingman's College. In his speeches and writings he opposed colonialism and the exploitation of oppressed peoples. Harrison wrote Positivism: Its Position, Aims and Ideals (1901); Positive Evolution of Religion (1913); and Philosophy of Common Sense (1907). Harrison died in 1923.

Harrison married Ethel Bertha Harrison in 1870. Together they had four sons.
