Biographical Text

James Rowland Angell received his bachelor's degree from the University of Michigan, where he was also a member of the fraternity, Delta Kappa Epsilon. He also earned two master's degrees, one from the University of Michigan and the other from Harvard University. He continued his studies in Germany but never completed the work for his doctorate. Angell served as the president of the American Psychology Association. In 1921, he was made president of Yale University, a post that he would hold for sixteen years.

Angell died in 1949.
