Biographical Text

George Edgar Vincent was an editor, educator, and sociologist. He was heavily involved in education, both adult home education, in the form of the Chautauqua project, and on the collegiate level. He was a professor at the University of Chicago and then president at the University of Minnesota. Vincent was also involved with the movement for health and sanitation, which he championed as the President of the Rockefeller Foundation. All of this culminated with his position as the President of the American Sociological Association and editor of the American Sociological Review. Vincent died in 1941.

Vincent married Louise Palmer in 1890. They had three children.
