My dear Mr. Sinclair: --

I am ashamed to say that I still have not read the book but it is only because I have literally not had a minute to read anything outside Peace literature for the last few months. The starting of our new Woman's Peace Party has involved a tremendous amount of work, and I am sailing for The Hague with a delegation from the Party on April 13th which will postpone the reading, of the book still further.

I am really eager to read it -- it is simply that I have not yet had the time.

With much appreciation of your kindness in sending it to me, I am

Hastily yours,

Jane Addams [signed]

Upton Sinclair, Esq.,
Gulfport, Mississippi.
