My dear Miss [Addams],

I was not surprised to get your note for how you live your busy life I do not know; but I do want something from you. Not a book -– only an article, which need not be more than five or six hundred to a thousand words long, and I want it at any time that you can do it,-- as soon as ever you can because my journal is new and I really want to strike the note which I hope to continue while it exists.

Do not bother to answer this letter until you can write me a paper; but your work profoundly interests me, and I am quite sure would interest readers of "Everyman."

The journal is quite a success; but it is the getting of such material as yours that I am out for more than anything else.

I hope that all is well with you, and successful.

Yours sincerely,

J. M. Dent [signed]
