My dear Miss Addams:

I am in rather a quandary and turn to you. Will you read the enclosed through? Will you then send somebody you can trust to the man, find out if he is all right, if he is of my regiment, in which case of course he will have his discharge papers, and if he is in want, as he says; and, if so, give him the money and let me know and I will send it to you at once. I hate to bother you; but I don't know how else exactly to get at it.

Faithfully yours,

Theodore Roosevelt [signed]

Miss Jane Addams,
Hull House,
Chicago, Illinois.
