Jane Addams to Lillian D. Wald, January 12, 1914

January 12, 1914.

My dear Miss Wald,

I have already sent the letter from Prince Kropotkin to Mr. Kenneday, and the letters from him and his wife are the only introductions <to us that> Miss Sukloff had. We were able to raise one thousand dollars which I sent to Mme. Kropotkin. She, <Miss Sukloff> herself, refused to have anything to do with the money. I hope very much that all will go well with her in New York.

I am awfully sorry that I can't come to New York the thirty-first of January. After much deliberation I promised to speak at the Progressive banquet on Lincoln's Birthday, February twelfth, but it would be impossible to come in January as well. I am sure it will be a delightful meeting, and I wish with all my heart I might have part in it.

Always devotedly yours,

Jane Addams [signed]
