Jane Addams to Sophonisba P. Breckinridge, July 18, 1913

Dear Lady:-

When shall we meet to select the third member for the Examining Board for the head of the Detention Home?

In the meantime we might each of us be preparing some questions. Personally, I think it would be wise if we asked the Civil Service Commission, through Miss [Nicholes], to increase the Examining Board to five so that we might have at least one Catholic and one Jewish representative -- perhaps two of the former. I am very anxious that the friction there should be allayed and not increased.

Miss Lowe would be awfully good on the Jewish side, do you not think so? I am enclosing a letter from Mr. Lovejoy. Do you know anything about the Factory Inspection situation?

Always affectionately yours,

Jane Addams [signed]
