Dear Miss Addams:

May I ask your reflection upon the social propositions in the enclosed clipping? This is about the way it looks to one student of the sociological aspect of the subject after much investigation and reflection, in which your series of magazine articles on "a new conscience" formed a part. Those were very interesting, and evidently written with sympathy, but I could not detect in them any remedy for prostitution. Don't you think society is in danger of overestimating the minor points and losing sight of -- or never comprehending -- the great main lines of the Problem?
