Dear Lady: --

I am not planning to come to New York in March and did not know that I was coming in April until my Washington engagement -- the "Men and Religion Forward" conference -- was moved to New York. I am afraid, however, that I shall be there only for the 24th, for while I am being swamped with requests to speak I am quite firm in declining to take on anything more. In any event, I shall be charmed to sit before the grate fire but of that will write you later!

I am so glad that you were able to go to Lawrence. The actions of the police <and> militia there have sounded perfectly preposterous. I am quite sure that a Russian official would feel that we had gone him "one better". Mr. and Mrs. Morgenthau visited Hull-House on Tuesday and I was very glad to show them the House. They gave very glowing accounts of the rendition of "The Shepherd" and I must congratulate you upon one more triumph.
