Biographical Text

Katharine Bement Davis was an American social reformer and criminologist. Davis was the first woman to hold a leadership position at a major New York City agency; she was appointed Correction Commissioner in 1914. She is also known for her work on prison reform and research about female sexuality. Davis died in 1935.
