My dear Miss Addams:
I haven't been well for several days, and so failed to express immediately my gratitude for your letter. I shall treasure your letter. I did not do your book or the House justice, but my desire was there, and time will do both justice, whatever we [page 2] reviewers say. I am delighted you gave the strength for writing the book, and that you make known the affections and realities of your early life. If people like you don't show their feelings, the quality of ordinary people's feelings is left vulgar, and not enhanced by example
I am very grateful to know you read the Review and found it sympathetic.
