Biographical Text

Ella Stewart was President of the Illinois Suffrage Association and Chairman of a committee (that included Jane Addams) that organized the Mississippi Valley Conference, which discussed women's suffrage in the Mid-West states. She was also a leading member of the International Council of Women and worked as a recording secretary of the National Women Suffrage Association. Stewart organized many different women's clubs in Chicago and Illinois.

Stewart married Oliver W. Stewart, a member of the Illinois House of Representatives, in 1890.
