Biographical Text

Alexander Agnew "A. A." McCormick was the general manager of the Times-Herald from 1895-1901. When the Times-Herald merged with the Record, he took up the same position at the newly formed Record Herald until 1904. In that year, he became editor and publisher of the Chicago Evening Post. In 1906, McCormick left Chicago for Indiana, helping to rebuild the Star league -- the Indianapolis Star, the Muncie Star, and the Terre Haute Star. In 1908, McCormick returned to Chicago after selling his shares in the Indiana newspapers. He became a part of the American Newspapers Publishers' Association, the American Economy Association, and the American Academy of Political and Social Science. In 1915, he was elected as an Alderman of the Sixth Ward of Chicago, a title which he held for two consecutive terms. He died November 26, 1925 after an unsuccessful battle with an illness.

In 1895 McCormick married Maude Warner. They has three children: Ezra Warner, Alexander Agnew, and Katherine.
