June 1.
My dear Mrs. Hester
I have the most grateful memories of the month I spent at St. Luke's Hospital in Tokyo last summer and the deepest appreciation of the excellent care which I received there. Everything was done for me very skillfully and with the utmost kindness.
I was much interested in all [page 2] the work of the church in Japan but of course I feel a very special interest in St. Luke's Hospital. There are ↑It has↓ so many ↑established↓ activities which must be carried on and so many fine new undertakings for public health, child welfare and the like awaiting fuller development. I hope you will have every success in your efforts to restore the shattered equipment of all the fine [page 3] educational and humanitarian work of your church in Japan, more needed than ever since our recent exclusion act. With assurances of my warm appreciation of the ministry of St. Luke's in a time of need I am
Very sincerely yours
