Feb. 18, 1909.

Honorable Oscar S. Strauss,
Sec. of the Department of Commerce and Industry,

My dear Mr. Strauss:-

May I introduce to you the bearer, Mr. Charles E. Beals, who is in Washington in the interests of the second National Peace Congress which is to be held in Chicago between May third and fifth.

We are most anxious that you should consent to be honorary chairman of the Committee on Commerce and Industry and also that you should address the Conference.

I remember very vividly and with a great deal of pleasure the address you gave in Boston before the International Peace Congress. If you feel that you could help us out here, it would be of the greatest possible help to a cause which is [page 2] as yet none too popular in Chicago.

Sincerely yours,

Jane Addams [signed]
