It is reported that Senator Lodge, Chairman of the Committee on Foreign Relations yesterday requested President Harding to send a special message to the Senate urging immediate ratification of the long pending treaty with Colombia, providing for the payment to that country of $25,000,000 for its loss of Panama. The clause in the treaty to which exception has been taken by some critics as seeming to reflect unfavorably on President Roosevelt's action in reference to Panama has now been eliminated.
As a measure of simple justice to Colombia and as a means of strengthening our relations with all Latin-America, we urge you to write -- or better, telegraph -- at once, to your senators and to President Harding in support of this ratification.
James G. McDonald,
Chairman, Executive Committee.
March 9, 1921.
