Miss Jane Addams

Chicago, Ill.

Dear Miss Addams:

Thank you very much for letting us see the letter from Miss Balch which I am returning with this. I hope that Doctor Duggan will be able to do something for the Fight the Famine Council but perhaps you know, better than Miss Balch, that the Carnegie Foundation is very conservative in its gifts just now.

I am enclosing with this a copy of our March Bulletin on disarmament. Could you make use of additional copies for distribution?

I am also sending an advanced proof of Mr. John Foster Dulles' speech at our luncheon last Saturday. The New Republic is reprinting it in their next issue. It is, by common consent, a brilliant exposition of the difficulty the Allies are meeting in agreeing among themselves on the indemnity.

Cordially yours,

Christina Merriman [signed]

Executive Secretary.
